  1. A while back my Chrome browser was accidentally started in Windows 8 mode. It caused havoc on certain online games is you switch to a different tab. One game I pay allows you to keep your browser open and do a automated blitz that would take about 50 minutes. So you would leave the tab and move on to other things while the blitz would work itself through. In Win8 mode the browser would eventually suspend itself so the blitz would freeze and not restart until you went back to the active tab again. This is an issue with how Win8 apps are designed. You don’t close them, they are just suspended until reused or you shutdown. It drove me crazy until I realized I was in Chrome Win8 mode.

  2. If the combination use of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and other non-IE browsers constitute approximately 60% of PC browser usage on the Internet, according to several credible reports, and for Mobile devices, non-IE browsers make up about 95%, then it is reasonable that most software developers and resulting software applications, particularly mobile apps going forward will not work correctly in any IE or Windows specific operation.

What then? I understand the tie to MS Windows and thus Internet Explorer (IE) for all the loyal Microsofties on ZDNet and other Microsoft focused forums, but reality would dictate that your preferred OS/browser environments, and apps developed specifically for them will diminish in quantity and popularity of use over a short time.

Most computer and Mobile device users do not wish to be so isolated.
